If you cannot find any instance of nrfjprog.exe on your Windows PC then you probably face different problem. Please open new question and give as as many details as possible (what system you run, what target you try to erase/program, how exactly, what is the behavior ad tool output).

Hey Bill, how did you manage to fix this problem? I have run into the exact situation but I can't find any copy of nrfjprog on the computer.

Turns out the whole problem was that some previous install had put a copy of an old nrfjprog in /usr/bin (or somewhere, I no longer remember). I had to remove that copy, reinstall the Segger tools and install the new version properly.

For all concerned: a good question going forward is:

$which nrfjprog

If you install proper tools where nRF52840 is supported it will work even with NRF52 family identifier....

That's SEGGER JLink, not nRF Tools. See here, you should have 9.5.0.

That doesn't work; I should have posted that I tried it:

$ nrfjprog -f UNKNOWN --eraseall
ERROR: Argument provided has a wrong value. Memory access not aligned, value
ERROR: outside of range or similar.

nrfjprog version: 8.3.0 JLinkARM.dll version: 6.16b

This matches with the latest in the download from the nRF52840 page as far as I can tell.

Try UNKNOWN family (if you are using the latest nrfjprog release).
