i'm running nrfconnect 2.6.2 and have the same problem on windows 8.1

Did you manage to solve this issue?

I don't have any issues opening the uuid_definitions.json file from nRF Connect (Tested with nRF Connect 2.4.0 on both Win 10 and Win 7).

Maybe you could check that your Bluetooth Low Energy app is updated to the latest version? This should be "Official, v2.2.0".
Also, notice that the file is located in %appdata%/roaming/nrfconnect/uuid_definitions.json.

I have the same issue with nRFConnect 2.4.0 on Windows 10. Clicking "Open UUID Definitions File" doesn't open a file. I've verified that my file association for .json is to Notepad++, and that works from Explorer. I've verified that I have the file "%appdata%\nrfconnect\uuid_definitions.json", but nRFConnect doesn't appear to be loading or using it at all.

C:\Users\End User>dir "%appdata%\nrfconnect\uuid_definitions.json"
 Volume in drive C has no label.
 Volume Serial Number is D0D3-554C

 Directory of C:\Users\End User\AppData\Roaming\nrfconnect

Unfortunately, the problem has not yet been resolved! :-( Putting names to services and characteristics is very useful in mobile version.

Sorted thanks. I'm still not able to open the file via nRF Connect. But my customisations in this file are reflected in nRF connect.

Hi pbrady!

You should find the uuid_definitions.json file located your %appdata%\nrfconnect folder.

You can also try to add the preferred text editor to .json files, as suggested in the comment above.

@Joakim The .json file is already defined to use notepad++. I tried changing this to notepad and back to notepad++ but neither option worked. I wonder if I create a uuid_definitions.json in the directory would if work, what folder is your .json file located in?

Hi pbrady!

Could you check what the default program for opening .json files on your computer is? You can do this by opening Control Panel -> Programs -> Make a file type always open in a specific program -> And then scrolling down until you find the .json file format. On my computer the .json file format was not defined and i fixed the problem by adding my preferred text editor to it (I am using notepad++).
