I have a similar situation however I gave it permission for location services. Phone can see it in bluetooth settings but the Thingy app cannot scan connect to the Thingy

I have removed the permission and when I reran the app it asked for permission again I said yes again and it still doesnot conect. Galaxy G5 on Android 6.0.1

Ideas?

@Anton, from android Marshmallow onward scanning for ble devices requires Location permission. The main reason being beacons can be used to track user locations. Therefore the location permissions has been introduced for scanning which has to be granted as a run time permission.

That's how iOS and Android work: applications can access BLE interface but it's linked to "location" privilege(s).

Okay! Solved it myself!

You just have to activate the Location settings of your smartphone. As I understood it's because of the way BLE works.

If anybody could provide a more detailed answer, please do so.
