unfortunately the windows version requires the devkit to be connected, so that's a no go. also, i tried the nrfconnect app on my phone and that results in the same outcome. i tried on another phone as well thinking it was my phone, but no luck with that either.

at this point i think i'm going to RMA the device as it is strange that it worked without issue for a couple days and then hit a full stop and now cannot be flashed with the nordic provided ios app & firmware

Hi siivv,

Are you able to find the Thingy using nRF-Connect?
Is the Thingy charged?
Could you try to use nRF Connect to flash the thingy? You can download the 1.1.0 firmware package from here. Put the Thingy in bootloader mode(hold the button down while powering it up), and use nRF Connect to do DFU.

having the same issue with a (PCA20020 1.0.0 2017.20). oddly enough it appeared that mine flashed correctly, but then a day later decided to hit the wall and is just flashing red. trying to push 1.1.0 again doesn't work.

all via the iOS app - downloaded firmware size on the app is 154,898 bytes, but when downloading to computer it is 159,265 bytes. so possibly it's not running a checksum against it after an incomplete download?

without a devkit setup i guess i need to retrieve the 1.0.0 firmware to push via the iOS app to get this operational again. does someone have a link to that? scouring google didn't yield it due to the way nordic "encodes" their download links and only makes 1.1.0 available for download.

@znegl is the thingy charged? Can you try to plug it into USB while flashing and post the results? Would be great to open up a new issue so we can track your problem directly with you as your issue might have the same side effects but be different than the main question :)

I'm able to put it in bootloader mode and upload new firmware to it. The process ends by displaying "completed" in the app, but after a few seconds the light on the device turns off and I can't find it anymore. I've tried looking for it with both the Thingy app and nRF Connect app. In the nRF Connect app I see my MacBook, my headphones, some neighbours ChromeCast and a lot of N/A devices.

Do you see the target "ThingyDfu" after you put it in bootloader mode? Does the app show "Completed" after the DFU process? Try turning the Thingy on and off, are you able to see the device using the nRF-Connect app?

What version of the Thingy iOS app do you have? Please make sure that you have the latest version(1.1.1).

I have the exact same problem. Got the Thingy at the Coldfront conference in Copenhagen — updated the firmware on it after playing a bit around with it at the venue, and during the update the device bricked itself. It's possible to force it into firmware update mode by holding the pushbutton while turning it on, but adding the same new firmware (1.1.0) from the iOS app doesn't help.

What kind J-Link programmer are you using? After programming the Thingy, does it blink with blue light? (make sure the power is on). It should blink every ~ 5 seconds.

Of course I did it just this way, but in my case the Thingy-hex-1.1.0 from official Nordic site don't work. The device don't advertise. If I flashed any other firmware from examples the device started advertising.

Try to download the Thingy-hex-1.1.0 from here. Use nRFGo Studio to "Erase All", and then program the hex using the "Program Application" tab in nRFGo Studio. After it have been programmed successfully it should start advertising.

No, I'm not able to find the device using nRFConnect if I flashed Thingy-HEX. But if I flased another firmware, the device will become available for connection. Of course, I try to press the button and switch power off/on.

I don't know how to insert image, but i have the same picture in nRFGo Studio as you have.

I used both methods. First I worked with Thingy using Android app and application suggested to update original version to 1.1.0. I try to update and DFU process finished successfully, but Application did not connect to device after updating. Then I try to flash the firmware Thingy:52-HEX 1.1.0 using programmer J-Link and nRF-Go Studio. Thingy device didn't advertise. I think the problem is in firmware.

Hi,

Version 1.1.0 works fine here. How did you update the Thingy:52? Did you use DFU using the Thingy smartphone app? or did you you flash the firmware using a programmer/debugger?
