But I got my mind set on a solution with several nodes as sensors, and one &amp;quot;base&amp;quot; node connected with an API making http calls over ethernet.

This has been available for some time. Direct link to the Ethernet library &lt;a href="http://wizwiki.net/wiki/doku.php?id=oshw_using_wiznet:bletoethernet"&gt;wizwiki.net/.../doku.php&lt;/a&gt; .
