In this instance, I could care less if monkeys came out of the USB port to flash the device ;)

What is important to me is that I can create a debug configuration that can run "erase", flash the soft device, then flash the application code seamlessly. The existing documentation is just sparse on the "how"

Hi Drewster

It seems you have a typo in the configuration of the GDB executable. Maybe you typed 'arm-none-eabi-gcc' instead of 'arm-none-eabi-gdb' ?
You have to set up two flash targets. One for flashing the application, and one for flashing the SoftDevice. Please see screenshots below:

To the point 2) It runs nrfjprog whih is stand-alone command-line flashing utility (binary coming in NRFTOOLs package downloadable on Nordic web site). So it doesn't use GDB at all.
