&lt;p&gt;I suggest you start with the Nordic DK first instead of your custom board as many examples from the SDK are built for the DK.  Once you are familiar with it then you can port it to your custom board.  So that incase the port didn&amp;#39;t work out of the box, at least you have a reference to debug the problem.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Softdevice is the Bluetooth stack.  You will need it if you want to BLE.  As I mention there are many example code in the SDK.  Working with the SDK requires more advance programming knowledge than Arduino.&lt;/p&gt;
