I wonder if there is any possibility to have my ble as a scanning device but for softdevice version s110, I'm asking because I found all the examples are with S120 and S130.
and of course if I can specify a ble device to do scanning for

RE: ble as a scanning device

@endnode : Thank you for your answer :) :)

RE: ble as a scanning device

I don't understand what you call "multiple" FOTA. For me it's just Over The Air Frimware update as any other. To the topic: sure, Nordic examples don't show reverse GAP roles (target device being GAP Central) but as you can feel tha1t's rather cosmetic change. The transport of image is done little bit differently but otherwise it's the same thing. I believe someone already succeeded with this architecture and Nordic way of upgrading firmware, I would search this forum and internet. If not successful then post new question and hope that someone will help you, in the worst case you will need to write it yourself. Alternatively you can keep GAP Peripheral role for OTA Firmware update, would that be any problem? Normally it isn't...

RE: ble as a scanning device

@endnode : but let's say it's okay and everything now is good, how can I do multiple fota? MBRs (which are the only parts to matter for OTA update) are compatible but you will need to put some effort to first migrate your FW to S130 V2 API (there are several changes since your pre-historic S110;) and second to make bootloader working for this migration. There is no example as far as I know but you won't be the first one to do this so it should pass at some point.

RE: ble as a scanning device

Hi @ joakim,

yeah I'm using the latest SDK available, but the problem is that I was using s110 as the intial firmware and doing fota using the same s110 softdevice, now I've to change the initial code so that it can be suitable for the other softdevice.

I'm afraid S110 only supports the Broadcaster/Peripheral role. I would suggest that you try using the Softdevice S130 instead, when working with the nRF51. I would aslo advise you to use the latest SDK supported for your device. For the nRF51, that is currently the SDK v12.3.0.

Best regards
Go for 130, no other SD is supported by Nordic on nRF51 today.
