&lt;p&gt;Connection on CODED PHY (long range mode) was not supported in S140 v5.0.0-2.alpha (supported by SDK 13), meaning you had to connect on 1 Mbit PHY, and then switch to CODED PHY to enable long range mode. In the latest release (&lt;a href="http://www.nordicsemi.com/eng/nordic/download_resource/60624/15/92497074/116072"&gt;S140 v5.0.0-3.alpha&lt;/a&gt;), connection on CODED PHY is also supported. There is an example included in the downloadable ZIP file that show this feature.&lt;/p&gt;
