We created a product using the nRF51822 and, because of space constraints, opted to use the antenna design from the beacon . We are now undergoing FCC testing and the lab is wanting to know what the gain is for the antenna. I have hunted

RE: nRF51822 Beacon Antenna Gain?

Thanks Sigurd, that makes sense.

RE: nRF51822 Beacon Antenna Gain?

Hi,

The antenna gain is probably close 0 dBi, and maybe slightly negative on such a small design. The gain will vary a bit with the design. Typically, if you change the size of the ground plane etc.

Your testing house only askes for this in order to check if the radiated power is too high, e.g. above 10dBm, which will not occur with any the antennas used on our reference designs and development kits. Therefore, it should be fine to state that the antenna gain is 0dBi.
