All features in the newer BLE versions need to be negotiated between the Central and the Peripheral before they are enabled on the link. If only one device support a feature, the negotiation will fail, and the feature will not be enabled. But the connection will still be valid and they will be able to continue to communicate.</p><div style="clear:both;"></div>
