When I compile the project there is an error that appears

#include "boards.h" --> (no such file or directory) Why please !!

No,

You would need minimum a 32Kb RAM nRF51 or nRF52 device to run the both the Mesh stack + the SoftDevice stack.

E.g the light_switch_server example uses about 15 kB RAM in the latest Mesh SDK, + you need about 8 kB RAM for the SoftDevice. 15 + 8 = 23 Kb, so it will not fit into a 16 kB RAM device. If you want to still use the nRF51822 you could go for the nRF51822 QF AC variant with 32 kB RAM, but I would recommend using the nRF52832 with 64 kB RAM if you are developing a mesh application.

Hi Sigurd, Sorry to bother you again. I built the light_control_client example for the NRF51822_xxAA with the linker options set at FLASH RX 0x00000000 0x00040000 and SRAM RWX 0x20000000 0x00004000 (this is what I used successfully before in Keil). But after I finished building the project it says error: .bss is too large to fit in SRAM memory segment (and it says the same for .heap). I tried optimizing for size but still no luck. Is this example able to be fit on the 51822? The examples solution seems to have a configuration for the 51422_xxAC which I think has twice the amount of SRAM.

The Mesh need the SoftDevice to work, so if you remove the SoftDevice, the Mesh will not work.

Hi Sigurd. If I want to step through my program with the debugger, and I'm using an SES Mesh project, how do I disable the SoftDevice? By removing the additional load file? Or do I need to erase the flash?

Hi Giang,

You don't need to flash the SoftDevice yourself with the SES Mesh projects, the SES Mesh projects are setup to flash the SoftDevice for you automatically. Under project options -> Debug -> Loader, you can see that the SoftDevice is setup as an addional load file:

Hi Sigurd , in order to example run correct . I have to flash Softdevice S132v3.0.0 , then flash program to board via SES . is that true ? I read can flash both Softdevice and program to board via SES . I want to ask how to config SES for flash correct both it . And where the start of Flash or SRAM is correct ? I use NRF52832 board . Normal debugging with breakpoints and stepping is not possible when the SoftDevice is enabled. See this post and this post .

If you test successfully on your board , pls tell me how to configure the correct parameters . I am using NRF52832 board and softdevice S132v3.0.0 .Thank very much

Hi Giang. All I did was download nrf5_SDK_for_Mesh_v0.9.2-Alpha, unpack it, and open examples/examples.emProject in SES. Rightclick light_control_client or light_control_server and press "set as active project" before compiling. That's as far as I can get. If I put breakpoints in any of the startup.s files, they have a "?" instead of a proper breakpoint. I think something is wrong with the Section Placement Segments, or somewhere where the start of Flash or SRAM is defined.

Hi Sigurd. After installing SES v3.28 and opening the light_control example from nrf5_SDK_for_Mesh, I can successfully compile and flash the example. However if I try to run the debugger, it jumps to address 0xfffffefe after a few "step over" presses and it gets stuck there forever. Is this because of my soft device? I can't find any blog posts about reflashing the soft device via SES. Thanks!!

A: That is correct. You should also install the nRF Command line tools. Download and install the 9.7.0 version from here.

We provide several examples in the Mesh SDK you can take a look at. See this infocenter page for more details.

To build the Mesh SDK example applications, a toolchain based on either CMake or SEGGER Embedded Studio is required. For quickly getting the example code up and running with full debug capability, it's easiest to use SEGGER Embedded Studio.
