A0: Yes, open the Nordic's Eddystone beacon project from SDK/examples/ble_peripheral/ble_app_eddystone using for preferrable IDE such as Keil MDK, IAR EWARM, or more.

Or copy and paste the hex file into the PCA10040 board.

This example makes the nRF52 to advertise Nordic's URL, as you see in my edited answer.

Q1: what would be entailed?

A1:

An IDE, like Keil, IAR, SEGGER ES, etc, or GCC compiler to build Nordic's project
Android/iOS Mobile BLE App
A development kit, like PCA10040 or PCA10028, or a custom board that has Nordic's MCU populated

Q2: I dont want nearby users to have to download an app which i think is the only way to get this thing to communicate the eddystone url like I want

Is it able to brodcast a eddystone like Url with some work? If so what would be entailed.. is sdk just for developing apps for this? I dont want nearby users to have to download an app which i think is the only way to get this thing to communicate the eddystone url like I want..

Hi, budders84.

I have read about the product specifications of Wellcore ibeacon.

In the document, it says that this uses nRF51822 and the iBeacon format (UUID / Major / Minor / RSSI).

Surprisingly, this beacon gives extra options such as device name, reset factory settings, password(?), and more.

If you have Nordic’s development kit, such as PCA10040 or PCA10028, apply the Nordic’s iBeacon example (SDK/examples/ble_peripheral/ble_app_beacon), please.

Check Nordic’s basic tutorial to flash the example code. It won’t take long to follow.

However, as described in the link, there is no automatic built-in method for an iBeacon to broadcast a website URL to users.

Hi budders84,

What kind of NRF51822 boards do you have? If you program the nRF51 with the Eddystone example in the SDK, you can easily configure them using the nRF Beacon for Eddystone app.

Estimote beacons should have the same ability, but you can check with them here.

Do the estimate beacons require much programming setup? Or basically just order, install the app and then change parameters? Just wanna be able to brodcast a link :)

How about using the Eddystone Beacon?

Nordic has already prepared examples related to Eddystone Beacon.

This example makes the nRF52 chip to advertise www.nordicsemi.com
