You should be able to download the Rev 1.0 FW by clicking on the 1.1 link in the Version column (see pic sr3). Then that opens up a window where you can download FW 1.0 (see pic sr3_1). Here is the link to the two pictures.

I'm not sure on how to get access to Rev 1.0 as the only source code file available to me is named "nRFready Smart Remote 3 nRF52 v1.1.zip"

Have you taken a look at Rev. 1.0 of the firmware?

it says: "Important: Only IR LED functionality example is implemented in Rev. 1.0 of the firmware." I'm not sure what this means but in version 1.1 of the source code the IR keymap seems hardcoded and it doesn't seem to have any "infrared learning feature" as it says in header of the link you provided. Am I missing something?

Here is a link that has instructions for pairing the smart remote. This link says that there is an IR LED functionality example implemented in Rev. 1.0 of the firmware.

Ok, found it here. infocenter.nordicsemi.com/.../Smart_Remote_3_for_nRF52_UG_v1.1.pdf

But it says nothing about how to test the IR features.
