Yes, "the original firmware" is able to select automaticly to work with "bluetooh 5 procotol".

Hi, The question was about operating the thingy52 with it's factory pre-installed firmware. If the original firmware is able to select automaticly to work with bluetooh 5 procotol or in any case the original pre-installed firmware is working only with ble4.1....?

It is possible to connect on a certain PHY and then change PHY on the fly after they have connected to improve range or speed. I.e. connect on 1 MbpsPHY, and then negotiate if they should switch to another PHY or not.

Hi,

The BLE versions are inter-operable and compatible. All features in the newer BLE versions need to be negotiated between the Central and the Peripheral before they are enabled on the link. If only one device support a feature, the negotiation will fail, and the feature will not be enabled. If one device doesn't support all the new features, they agree to use only the old features.

There is one exception though. BLE 4.x devices cannot connect to BLE 5 devices that advertise with 2Mbps PHY (BLE 5 High throughput) or coded PHY(BLE 5 Long range), but Thingy FW uses the 1 MbpsPHY, so this is not a concern here. So there is no issues using the Samsung S5 with BLE 4.1 with the Thingy:52.
