Sorry. Just wanted to be 100% certain. I would take a look a this link to try to reinstall the usb drives. If that doesn't work, I would take a look at this video regarding uninstalling usb drives. Note: I would not uninstall all usb drives, but try to uninstall the usb driver corresponding to the usb port you are currently using if possible. I would start with the USB Composite Device drivers first (see picture). But I am no expert! So you might want to google a bit first to see which driver does what. Then, restart your computer (you might have to restart 2 times it seems if you check the youtube video comments) & the usb driver(s) should automatically reinstall.

Yes it is recognized, as J-link in windows storage.

Hey Bjorn testing it on a ubuntu linux vmmachine now, installed the j-link package. Guess what, it is recognized ....

USER@ubuntu:~/Downloads/nRF5x-Command-Line-Tools_9_7_1_Linux-x86_64/nrfjprog$ ./nrfjprog -i 683269496 683062268

The serial number with 96 is the new one, the 68 is the older one. So for some reason when I emulate it over windows to a VM using VMwarePlayer it is working. Seems it is like a Windows driver issue, thanks for helping me so far.

got any idea how I can really purge everything with the drivers on Windows?

Really hope that fixes things. Not ideal if you need to use two computers to program your boards. I wonder if it's a Windows driver issue maybe...

I don't see how uninstalling and reinstalling the software could make the situation any worse. Talked to a few application engineers at work and they agreed. If I were you, I would try that. But it's your choice. I understand that it wouldn't be fun if you couldn't program the 4 boards that are working. Was the other PC also running Windows 10? Have you installed all of the latest drivers and software?

Hey Bjorn, thanks for all your help so far.

using the tool you advised I am able to get the serial addresses of all my 0.9.2 boards:

Z:\>nrfjprog -i
683904315
683429595
683062268
683345621

Hooking up any of the 0.9.3 boards I got with serial numbers : 683269496 & 683365491 do not return anything use the same command:

Z:\>nrfjprog -i

But very important, I tested the board on another PC. Installed the Segger driver and the command line tool. Guess what they did show up on that PC!?

So it really seems like Windows / Segger / J-link is doing something funny with the boards. What would you recommend doing now, uninstalling all software and reinstalling ?

It just presents me with a risk that my other boards might not work on my primary workstation after that.

Can you download command line tools for Windows from here (just download the latest update)? Could you then open up a command prompt and enter nrfjprog -i. You should then get a serial number corresponding to your board (the same one that is under the 2017.40 line on the interface MCU). Hopefully that will work & we'll take it from there.

Hi Bjorn thanks for the message. I was able to upload the *.bin file from J-link to the BOOTLOADER drive. Now the device is showing up in device manager again, also as a J-link device in windows computer (storage). So I am able to upload .hex files to the J-link storage drive now. But alas the device is still not being recognized by either: nRFgo Studio, Segger embedded studio, Keil uVision.

So if I am correct I am still not able to upload a softdevice now and debug the nRF52840 through Segger/uVision.

Do you have any more tips about what I could do now?

I dont really think it has to do with the software, the board is not showing up anymore in device manager / or my computer as a storage device.

Any way to reset the device using the buttons on the board ?

Thanks for your answer Bjørn Kvaale, I am running this on Windows 10. Also have restarted my PC. Just tried it again, now I cant even see the J-Link storage device in computer. It is also not being seen in device manager anymore.

To verify the standard example is running on it. LED 1 is lit, if I press any of the BSP buttons the LED lights up corresponding to the BSP button pressed.

Is there any way I can reset the software on the board to put it back into like a factory default ? But there is no way I can do this from my host windows machine, it wont recognize the boards.

note: my other 4 boards are still working fine.

I just tested my pca0056 0.9.3 2017.39 serial number board with nrf go studio. Your device says 2017.40, but that only means that your nrf52840pdk was produced in week 40 and mine in week 39. The most important thing is that we are using the same version 0.9.3. The device is recognized in nrf go studio and ses. Was also able to upload the ble_app_hrs example to the board on segger embedded studio (am using v3.30 64 bits) and run the heart rate example on nrf toolbox for ios. Have you tried restarting your pc? Which version of segger embedded studio are you using? I would suggest upgrading to the latest version if you haven't already.

EDIT: I got a tip from a colleague. First, you can download the J-Link FW from this link here. If you turn your pdk off and then hold in the IF BOOT/RESET button while turning on the preview dk, you should see the board appear as a BOOTLOADER drive. Then, you can drag and drop the .bin file you downloaded to the BOOTLOADER drive. That should hopefully fix your problem.

The other of the 2 newer boards is not even seen by windows in the device manager. I just updated the J-link drivers to version 6.20h, that did not help.
