What is the chip marking on the nRF52840 SoC?

What USB examples in the SDK have you tested this with?

Could you test with a different USB cable ?

My DK is V0.9.0. I have Windows 10.

Hello all. My problem was resolved by changing the development kit altogether. There appeared to be some sort of hardware issue. When I changed the kit everything was ok.

Hey. I found the issue! I had a long USB cable extension cable connected to my Windows machine (but not the Mac). When I plugged the board directly into the machine using a short USB cable it worked. Nasty... Larry

Hi Sigurd, I tried another PDK (also v0.9.2) with the same results. The J-Link operation upgraded the firmware for the emulator first as the board is fresh out of the package. I tried loading usbd_hid_composite_pca10056.hex and got the same results. It works on Mac but not on Windows. I also tried a reboot of the Windows machine. It didn't help.

Please test with the other PDK. Is the other PDK also V0.9.2 ?

Hi Sigurd, I have made some minor modifications as I am developing a USB device. But I did try some of the precompiled hex examples before I made my post and they are failing in the same manner. I have another PDK I can try. I will also try to reboot my Windows machine to see if either of those have an effect. Regards, Larry

Have you done any modifications to the SDK USB examples when testing this? Could you do a test with the precompiled hex that comes with one of the USB examples in the SDK ?

Hi, I am having the same issue but I have a bit more information. I have both a Windows and a macOS machine. Using the same board the USB examples do not work on Windows (this is where I develop using Segger), but when I plug into the Mac, everything is good and the programs work well.

I can debug both situations on Windows and Mac. On Windows the ev_setup_handler always reports: USBD event: Setup (rt:80 r:06 v:0100 i:0000 l:64) This is repeated about 7 times until Windows reports a device failure.

On Mac, the sequence is starts up like the following: USBD event: Setup (rt:00 r:05 v:0009 i:0000 l:0) USBD event: Setup (rt:80 r:06 v:0100 i:0000 l:8)

My PDK sticker: PCA10056 V0.9.2 2017.34

From your description, I suspect it could be a issue with one of your nRF52840-PDK board. Please create a Mypage support case ticket regarding this issue, and we will find a solution for you. Remember to add the information about the board version in the MyPage ticket.

Hi Sigurd,

I gave it another try after your comment. The example works on only one of my Dev kits. The Dev kit that it works is V0.9.2 2017.27 The example does not work in dev kit V0.9.2 2017.33. Any ideas?

I have tried hid generic and get exactly the same result. (My) Windows 10 do not reckognize the USB device.
I am using v.0.9.2
I have 2 PDKs. Both of them have the same result
No I don't have custom boards. My test was run on a normal Nordic PDK 52840 V0.9.2 with code from SDK14.0.0

Any help appreciated.

Please provide some more information.

Do you have this problem with other USB examples in the sdk ? Could you test with e.g. usbd_hid_generic example ?
What version of the nRF52840 PDK are you using? It should be printed below PCA10056 on the sticker on the kit.
Do you have more than 1 nRF52840-PDK you can test with?
Do you have custom boards using "engineer samples" ?

If you are using engineer samples:

How many of these custom boards with engineer samples do you have ?
What is the build code on the engineer samples? (This is printed on the chip)
