You are correct. It says under the limitations section that the flash management on the normal sdk is different to the mesh sdk. But Hung also mentions that they are working on a way to fix this. Hopefully this will be fixed soon! This link might be helpful for you if you haven't seen it already.

Actually regarding compatibility with nRF5 SDK, I am looking specifically at read/writing to flash. From what I have learned, the Mesh SDK used an older version of flash management, which risk incompatibility issue when used with nRF5 SDK. This is unfortunately an issue that the solution in your link also has.
