To wake up an iPhone using a beacon you will need to implement an iBeacon. iBeacon specifications can be found here:

Did you remember to program the Softdevice as well as the application to your beacon? Try to program this file to your beacon:

SDK_10.0.0_folder\examples\ble_peripheral\ble_app_beacon\hex\ble_app_beacon_s130_pca10028.hex

It includes both the softdevice and the application.

So what code did you run on your nRF51 board to start with?

If your device seemingly doesn't advertise it is often because you have a bug in your code causing it to reset or enter an endless while loop. You can debug it like this.

What kind of board do you use?
