You can choose between SDKv11 (first releases that support nRF52-series) or SDKv12.3 (last release supporting nRF51-series):

There were quite a lot of changes going from SDKv11->SDKv12.x. You will likely be most familiar with SDKv11, since you are already working with SDKv8.x.

My recommendation is that if you have code size conserns, then you should use SDKv11 (typically the modules use less code space), while if you want to take advantage of all the new peripheral features in nRF52-series, then you should build you application using SDKv12.3. Also using SDKv12.3 will make it easier to later move to more recent SDK, such as SDKv14.x and beyond if you only plan to support only the nRF52-series.
