Does the nRF8001 Development kit from Nordic Semiconductor include a compiler, debugger toolchain ?

RE: Does the nRF8001 development system include a compiler toolchain?

The recommendation is to start with the nRF8001 SDK for Arduino, there are multiple ports available for the SDK i.e Energy Micro , Renesas RL78 STM32 (Maple , Particle.io and others) look at the Nordic github for the ports. github.com/.../

RE: Does the nRF8001 development system include a compiler toolchain?

It seems that the nRF8001-SDK is now deprecated, and the recommendation is to just use the Android SDK instead - don't bother with the nRF8001-SDK!

Note that the the Code Red toolchain was acquired by NXP some years ago - it is now rebranded as the LPCXpresso toolchain; free for NXP chips, but not for others.

RE: Does the nRF8001 development system include a compiler toolchain?

The nRF8001 SDK for Arduino is now publicly available from github.com/.../ble-sdk-arduino , the license for this code is the MIT License.

RE: Does the nRF8001 development system include a compiler toolchain?

The nRF8001 SDK is created for an 8051 based device called nRF8200(available with the nRF8001 DK). A Keil C51 compiler is needed to modify/compile the examples, but the initial review can be done using precompiled files.

As an alternative we are also working on an nRF8001 SDK for the Arduino platform using the free Arduino IDE, a release candidate can be downloaded from:

You can also use the ARM-Cortex M3 (lpc1769) or ARM-Cortex M0 using the free code red toolchain with the nRF8001.
