&lt;p&gt;The RTC in nRF52832 is a &lt;a href="http://infocenter.nordicsemi.com/topic/com.nordic.infocenter.nrf52832.ps.v1.1/rtc.html?cp=2_1_0_24#concept_rvn_vkj_sr"&gt;Real-Time Counter&lt;/a&gt;, not a Real-Time Clock. It is possible to keep track of time using the counter, but it does not support calendard or high presision timing. It is just a low-power timer running of the 32.768 kHz low frequency clock. The timer will not run when the chip is in &lt;a href="http://infocenter.nordicsemi.com/topic/com.nordic.infocenter.nrf52832.ps.v1.1/power.html?cp=2_1_0_17_1#unique_1707892264"&gt;system off low power mode&lt;/a&gt; or retain any data during reset.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;If you need real-time clock, you will have to add an external chip handling this.&lt;/p&gt;
