I've recently jumped back on development of a board I had made a while ago but have forgotten everything and am starting from scratch as computer was reformatted since then.
Goal: getting a custom program to program blinky example, also

RE: programming external board (nrf51822 QFAC) with nrf51dk [kiel configuration? softdevice? sdk?] nothings working.

You guys are good!, I think the most fustrating problems are cable problems because you end up going through every other possible solution first... anyways, I made a new cable and it works. man thats annoying.

RE: programming external board (nrf51822 QFAC) with nrf51dk [kiel configuration? softdevice? sdk?] nothings working.

Hi,

You are using revision 3 of the 51, which is identical to the variant used on the 51 DK. Here is the compatibility matrix for reference: http://infocenter.nordicsemi.com/topic/com.nordic.infocenter.nrf51/dita/nrf51/compatibility_matrix/nRF51822_ic_revision_overview.html?cp=3_0_1.

I think this more likely to be a wiring problem. Did you connect SH_VTG (Jlink pin to detect target voltage) to VDD? The J-link will not attempt to program the chip otherwise.
