Hi Lee,

You are not paying that fee to Nordic, but you will be paying that to Bluetooth SIG. Nordic already have its stack qualified and pays fees to get a Bluetooth QDID for its stack. Check this.

The answer for this is already covered in forum, one of it, for example, can be seen here.

In short, When it comes to Radio/Wireless technologies, the qualification costs are not small. Most visible needs to pay this fee to Bluetooth SIG are

Using Bluetooth Logo on your product
Getting a patent infringement protection from SIG.

Also this fee is not related to Nordic BLE products only, you need to pay this fee for any other product that offers Bluetooth.

You also most likely need to do other compliance certifications like FCC, CE etc based on where you want to sell your products are these are not cheap either.
