To give further instructions about this since this helped me with my iPhone, "removing the bond" in my case meant going to Settings => Bluetooth, and looking for my nRF Device. Then go to "Forget this device". I also turned off Bluetooth afterwards just in case and re-enabled it. That Connection Security Failed message went away. Maybe just "Forgetting the device" is enough, haven't tried it.

I have the same error message running the Heart Rate Sensor example "ble_app_hrs" on the nRF52840 using the nRF5_SDK_15.2.0_9412b96. As a newbie I was playing with the YouTube tutorial from Nordic regarding debugging in Segger Embedded Studio.

It occurs if I a connect the the nRF52840 using my iPhone (iOS 12.0.1) with a BLE app like nRF Connect or BLE Scanner:

peer_manager_handler: Connection security failed: role: Peripheral, conn_handle: 0x0, procedure: Encryption, error: 4102
app: GATT ATT MTU on connection 0x0 changed to 185.

But I get no errors with the same 2 apps on Android smartphone when I connect, also the MTU value is different then with the iPhone.

Connected.
app: GATT ATT MTU on connection 0x0 changed to 247.

Spirit: Can you create a new question so that we can continue there? It is cleaner to keep unrelated issues in separate threads. In that question, can you upload any additional information you have (logs, sniffer traces, code etc.)?

Yes, I saw the API.
I'm not using any template. I only migrate my project to the new SDK15.1. On SDK15 I do not have this problem.
Therefore, "nothing" is new, "only" the SDK 🙂

Spirit: It does not look like you are seeing the same issue as Ars Morozov. According to the API documentation for sd_ble_gap_sec_info_reply() you get NRF_ERROR_INVALID_STATE in the following situations:

No link has been established.
No BLE_GAP_EVT_SEC_REQUEST pending.
LE long term key requested command not allowed.

Are you also using a modified template application? Can you upload the full log leading up to this error? Any other information?

In your case, this might be simply that you have deleted the bonding information on the nRF side but not on the phone side? The error message indicate so (4102 = 0x1006 = PM_CONN_SEC_ERROR_PIN_OR_KEY_MISSING). This issue should be fixed by simply removing the bond on the phone as well.

No, I don't 😞 It is completly random so why I can't debug it 😞

It's not completely random, because I try to do it many times it and this problem is occure with this conditions. Maybe it's related with device.

Ars Morozov is not an Android or an Iphone related problem.
It happens randomly without a specific procedure or rule, with both phones.
And that's why it's so hard to debug.

As I said... I only migrate my project to new SDK. With the SDK15 I did not have these problems.

But anyway as I can see it work fine, at least I can discover services and characteristics. For now I have only READ characterisits, and I can succefully read it.

Anyway I think we should find the source that cause this error message.

I just upload template application on nRF52DK (pca10040) without any modifications of project and connect with nRF Connect 1.8.7 on iOS (iPhone 6).
When I connect with Android this message is disapear.

I have not been able to reproduce this on my side using an unmodified Template Application from SDK 15.1 and nRF Connect 1.8.7 on iOS. Can you elaborate on how you were able to trigger his issue, and describe any modifications you have done to the Template Application?

Yes! I have something similar. It appeared to me just today :(

I migrated to SDK15.1 from SDK15.0 where I did not have such a problem.
Nordic guys... why?
