The API reference on Infocenter should provide you with a good overview: http://infocenter.nordicsemi.com/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.nordic.infocenter.s132.api.v6.1.0%2Fmodules.html&cp=2_3_1_1_0_2
The files you need depends entirely on the dependencies of the example project you use. A good indicator are the included files in the makefile of your example project.
