Yes, you do need to type 20 characters, but there also seems to be a need for updating the app. So we'll try to do that as well.

I figured out that you need to type in at least 20chars until it will send it via BLE. I successfully changed the code and removed this. Maybe this will help you also.

It is true that it is not recommended to start a new development on the C0 version of the nRF51822 and that the latest SDK and Softdevice isn't tested properly on the C0 version of the nRF51822. There's a matrix in the this document that describe the various SDK and softdevice version and which on to use.

That said, I would still temporarily give the latest SDK and softdevice a go. As Ngyuen says, he got some code examples working on his C0 version, but you might have to modify the default code examples to get it going there as well.

EDIT: I just got around to checking out the behavior on iOS8 myself and I see the same as you do here. We're working of fixing the issue on our app and will hopefully post an update soon. In the mean time, yes, it is our app for that's not displaying the data sent from the PC through the nRF51822 to the iOS device.

I don't know what the old one is but I got C0 and G0 working fine

I have one of the first nRF51822 EK's with old chip revisions and from what I have read the newer SDK's are only supported by the newer revisions of the nRF51822.

Am I wrong?

I doubt anyone can help you with SDK 4.x. Everybody is either working with 5.x or 6.x now. Why don't you upgrade to newer SDK see if it works. For sdk 6.1. I have example code here embeddedsoftdev.blogspot.ca/.../ehal-nrf51.html. It's different from the one in SDK. Corresponding iOS code is also there. Only tested on iOS7 though.

Hi everyone,

I got the same issues with the following environment:

nRF51422 EK connected through USB with PC
UART connected through SEGGER-Chip
SD110 v7
latest ble_uart_example from github
iPhone 6 with iOS 8.1
Custom developed iOS-App or/and Nordic UART App

Problem is still :

Sending from iPhone to nRF51422-PCB works. Output is printed on terminal
Sending from Terminal->nRF51422->iPhone does not work. Nothing arrives.

Also tested:

Entering text in the char through the Master Control Panel also has no effect. I've subscribed to the char-value on the iPhone for any change, but it does not change.

Do you have any chance to verify your example at your labs? Maybe iOS 8 is the problem? I will try to work myself through the ble_uart_NRF-Code .....
