 1) I takes almost 3x as long to program as a PCA10040 
 2) Generally I have to program it twice as the first time usually doesn&amp;#39;t work

&lt;p&gt;You are using a very early engineering version of the nRF52840 that is not tested. Make sure to order a new nRF52840-DK, they are all using the production hardware revision of the nRF52840 now (PCA10056 v1.0.0, build code QIAAC0).&lt;/p&gt;
