If the output pin is being driven by peripheral other than GPIO itself, then you cannot sniff the level without using any other pin configured as input and connected to this output.

Thanks for notice , I've checked GPIOTE page of infocenter. But it didn't mention the kind of usage.
Of course, in my opinion, GPIO should keep the same level as it is configured, but for some reason they need to check it within the same GPIO.

What does the datasheet say?

But, surely, if it's an output then it will be at whatever level you set it ... ?
