First I want to thank all nordic staff for their great work on sdk & this incredible tiny chip that do a lot :-). I play a little with the devkit sample and my nrf development kit and all work really fine.

You can use nRF51822 UART with a RS-232 brakout like this one www.ebay.ca/.../251639247179 or you can use with FTD virtual serial port. There are FTD breakout out there as well. Serial port is the simplest way to interface with old machines. You can always try with a BLE dongle but drivers are not guaranty to work well. It would be a trial and error. No special drivers are require for serial port on the PC side and can even work on an old PCXT for that matter.
