&lt;p&gt;Your version is, in my view, another way of stating the same thing, as the POWER register is defined to show the current state.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;When writing to POWERSET, you set the specific bits. When writing &amp;#39;1&amp;#39; to a field in POWERCLR, you clear the specific bit in POWER.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;If you read the POWERSET or POWERCLR, it will return the content of the POWER register, but that might not necessarily match what you just wrote into POWERCLR for instance.&lt;/p&gt;
