I checked that link and ended up not being able to get the dongle working. I eventually configured my nRF52840 DK instead, which is a shame as the dongle is a nicer form factor to carry around. It'd be great to see the dongle supported in the main package.

This mentions the following:

To use the nRF Sniffer for Bluetooth LE you need either the nRF52840 DK, nRF52 DK, nRF51 DK or the nRF51 Dongle.

So nRF51 Dongle is supported but not nRF52840 Dongle... ??

PCA10040 support was added in the v2 beta 1 release and PCA10056 was added in the v2 beta 2 release

I just know nRF Sniffer currently version is support PCA10040, I knew it did not support last a few month.

Am I correct?

You can but you will need to tap out the UART lines (RX, TX, RTS, CTS, Vcc and GND) and attach it to a USB to UART converter and then the dongle will work as a sniffer, so a bit more work.

The nRF Sniffer v2 currently does not support the CDC Serial over USB so cannot use the USB to send the packets to the PC.

Currently it is simpler to have a DK board as a sniffer, this will change after we add support for the PCA10059 in the nRF Sniffer (timeline for PCA10059 support is not known). [Nov 2018]

The nRF sniffer v2 beta 3 does not support the nRF52840 Dongle (PCA10059). When an nRF Sniffer v2 release is made for the dongle the hex file for the dongle will be tagged with the board number (pca10059).
