We are trying to do DFU on a device using s132_nrf52_5.0.0_softdevice.hex.
The DFU interrupts first time when it is around 15-20% complete.
When the DFU is attempted second time, it completes successfully.

I am really struggling to find out what's wrong here.

About your whitescreen issue, can you try to update your JLink version installed on your PC?

As for the DFU fails. Have you done any changes to the bootloader project? If so would you mind sending me your project so I could have a look, or at least sending the snippets where changes have been made.

Also, how have you generated your DFU image? What commands have you used?

Best regards,

Simon

RE: DFU being successful in exactly second attempt

Hi Simonr.

"2. Switch to DFU mode. The device then disconnects itself automatically." What application was running on the nRF before this? Only bootloader or an application with bootloader?

Application with bootloader.

How do you switch to bootloader mode? Button press or Buttonless DFU service?

Buttonless DFU service.

Please share screenshots from the points you experience trouble, maybe they can help give me some insight in what exactly is happening here.

Nothing much that way. Just that the DFU interrupts midway around the 20% mark, and then completes on the 2nd attempt. The logs have already been attached in the originating post.

As for the whitescreen issue you have with the desktop version, what operating system are you using? It should not be possible to crash nRFconnect simply by selecting the device.

I am using Windows 8.1 Pro. And the white-screen does occur immediately after selecting the solitary PCA10040 from the dropdown.

Also, what mobile device are you using? Are you able to test the DFU on another mobile device?

Using Android, on Oppo and MI phones.

Thanks and Regards,

Thanks for the help.

This is observed while using nrf-connect for mobile device.

Regarding your suggestion earlier to try on desktop version, I am stuck at the white-screen issue (please see the reply-post earlier to your suggestion).

If I do the following steps, then DFU completes in one step.

1. Connect to the device via nrf-connect.

2. Switch to DFU mode. The device then disconnects itself automatically.

3. Close nrf-connect, and wait for 5 minutes.

4. Reconnect to the device via nrf-connect (this time, the device-advertised name is different).

5. This time, the device would have connected in DFU mode. Select the .zip to upload, and begin DFU.

6. DFU completes merrily in 1 go.

If step 3. is omitted, then the device requires 2 attempts to complete the DFU.

Could this lead to identifying the real reason of 2-attempts?

Thanks and Regards,

Thanks for the help.

Unfortunately, when I use nrf-connect 2.6.1 for desktop, it goes into a white-screen after selecting the device. The device is PCA10040

I googled, and I already have VC2015, but still the white screen does not go away.

I regret to inform you that you must expect delays in response during the holiday season due to reduced support capacity, but I will get back to you during the first week of January 2019.

I suggest trying to use nrfutil or nRF connect for desktop to do DFU, as the mobile version is not always as reliable. This way we can isolate the problem to either the nRF or the mobile device.
