Hi Scott,

1. You are correct, the old link was broken. (fixed now)

The Getting started page on Devzone goes a little more in depth in the steps.

2. It is "sort of" mentioned in "step 9" in "Get your nRF9160 DK online" where it says:

"Flip Switch 2 to the right hand side position to view simulated GPS data.", but I agree that we can emphasize this a bit better.

Your getting started link 404s. Did you mean this page?
I actually started using your OTHER getting started page That page makes no mention of this issue. As this is the page I was directed to when I get started with this devboard, it would be helpful if you updated that page as well.

Hi Scott,

The "asset_tracker" sample that was shipped with the v0.8.2 kit is using simulated gps. (it is showing the location for the Nordic Semiconductors main office)

The firmware for the integrated GPS is not quite ready yet, "public sampling 31 March". (referring to the "nrf9160 Development status")

I am also adding the nrf9160 Getting Started Guide (on devzone) in this post which should be a good starting point.

Thank you, I'm running 0.8.2 so that is likely the issue.:

This anomaly applies to nRF9160 DK v0.7.0 and v0.8.2. GPS performance using on-board antenna is poor or non-functional. Using the GPS with on-board antenna ... will, in most conditions, not be possible to get a GPS fix with the on-board antenna.

Hey there Craig! I got this from Mouser and it is using a Basis eSIM. As to rev# the sticker on the back has PCA10090 (0.8.2) 2018.49 960022401

Have a look at the errata; there is a hardware bug on the GPS antenna on the dev kit which may be stopping location updates without a hardware mod or an external powered GPS antenna
