It seems the module I received was readback protected, so I had to eraseall (e.g. --recover) to disable readback before I could program the module.

Hi everyone,
I tried swapping the pins and it worked for me.
Just in case I did the recover first "nrfjprog.exe -f nrf52 --recover --log" (not sure if it´s a must). Then, using Segger Embedded Studio, Connect J-link, Erase all, and download the light_switch_dimming_server_nrf52840_xxAA_s140_6.1.0 example.

No errors this time, and the nRF Mesh android app found the device correctly.

In case it helps, my setup is just the SKB501 module with capacitors in VCC, SWDIO and SWDCLK swapped, Reset unconnected, and powered from P1 of the nRF52840-DK development kit.
I used the J-Link inside the nRF52840-DK for programming, Debug output in P19, and SB47 not shorted.

Pin 9 EXT_GND_DETECT	GND

I tried swapping SWDIO and SWDCLK pins and it did not work for me. I sent you a module, hopefully you have received it or will receive it soon.

I also had problems with the SKB501 module. The problem is in datashit error. There are mixed pins SWDIO and SWDCLK. After replacing everything worked

Skylab sent me the connections they use for flashing. Exactly the same connections you can find in the datasheet, and the ones I´ve been using.
I've still been unable to program the modules.
I had to keep developing with Nordic's DK board. If I ever come back to the modules and find a solution I´ll let you know.

I also received the SKB501 NRF52840 modules, and am facing the same issue you noted here. Please let me know if you find out the issue from SkyLab. I've used their NRF52832 based modules and they work fine.

I double checked it and it looks OK. I wrote to the manufacturer, just in case there is any mistake in their datasheet or any change in their design. I'll answer if I get a final solution.

I've just tested that, and something must be wrong with the module.
I've used another DK as target and the same wiring. I can program the target device powering both DKs from their USB connectors, even powering the target device form the programmer DK.
I'll test with more modules in case any of them can get connected.

In case all of them fail, would it be safe to assume that it's something concerning the connections to the module? Or is there any chance the modules are somehow locked from programming?

Do you have any other module or board with an nRF device you can use for testing? Even a different DK can be used as target, there is an debug in header you can use.

I've tried both ways and no luck. I get the same error.
I've tried powering both ways. From the VDD output in the P1 header with SB47 not shorted and from the debug output with SB47 shorted.
I've tried both powering methods with and without connecting RESET. And I made sure when RESET is disconnected that it is pulled up to 3v as you adviced.

No luck in any combination.

In any case, thanks for your help. I might need to contact the module manufacturer just in case there is any quirk in their design.

The times I have done this I have not shorted SB47, I have instead provided voltage from P1 header VDD. Also, I have not connect Pin 10 EXT_RESET RESET. Then I can use nrfjprog as normal, maybe you can give it a go. Make sure RESET pin is pulled high on the target board the entire time.
