I have just got a brand new PPK board, and would like to use it with an external J-Link. As far as I could tell by reading the documentation , this scenario is not yet supported by the nRF Connect app, so I would need to use the Python-based

RE: Using PPK with external J-Link, where to get the software?

Great, thanks!

RE: Using PPK with external J-Link, where to get the software?

We just released a version that supports external J-Link.
1. The latest Python-based PPK software can be downloaded from this page. I couldn't get it to work reliably (tried both Python 2.7 and 3.4). Don't waste your time

2. There is some support in nRF Connect already - you just have to use their development version from GitHub. This is pretty straightforward to setup (just follow the instructions in the README) and seems to work pretty well. You can find additional details inside the relevant GitHub issue.

TL;DR - Use nRF Connect PPK app from GitHub

RE: Using PPK with external J-Link, where to get the software?

You need a DK for the PPK I'm afraid. The external supply regulators on the PPK are a bit iffy a wont give you the best accuracy. Also the Python application is far inferior to the nRF Connect application.

Edit:
I've talked to the developers. The regulators are not an issue after all, and we will soon have support for using external debuggers.
