The purpose of the Heartbeat message is to indicate to other nodes that the node sending the Heartbeat message is still active and to allow its distance from the recipient to be determined, in terms of the number of hops needed to deliver the Heartbeat message.&amp;quot;&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
