So you are talking about only using nrf9160 SIP, correct?

You have an Application Processor to your disposal for your firmware to run on.

You can for example test the asset_tracker sample

Did you faced any issues without using controller to develop your product???? We are also looking for the same. Which antenna you used for LTE and GPS???

I am also developing same for tracking purpose without using any external controller. Hope we can configure same to get sensor data and sent it via LTE.

Any sugestions???

I just want to add the Tutorial: Getting Started with nRF9160, it is a great place to start out.

I would also like to mention that you get a free licence of Segger Embedded Studio IDE if you are using nordic products, (such as nRF9160).

Yes, you should be able to do these things without the need of any external microcontroller.

Yes, nrf9160 is programmable.

You can check the nrf Connect SDK. There is also a Development Kit available.
