It's far clearer to present this information as a schematic rather than trying to do it in words!

Note that the nRF52840 DK does not supply power to the external target.

As Øyvind says, a good, clear, in-focus picture (photograph) would also be helpful.

Can you please copy the output of the terminal/command prompt you are using?
What kind of file are you trying to program?
Can you also include a picture of the setup you have?

Sorry meant P19. I currently have a connector that when plugged into my external NRF connects VDD-> VTG, IO->SWDIO, CLK-SWDCLK, GND-> GND. However when I run nrfjprog -i to see if the system is correctly trying to program my external board, I continue to just get the serial number of my DK. To make sure it wasn't the connector, I also broke out my system and connected everything to P20 but still had the same results. If I'm correctly applying 3 Volts to the VDD pin, what else could be the problem here?

It's not just a pin; it is a connector - it has 10 pins !

As Øyvind says, the pinout of this connector is given in the DK User Guide.

In the DK documentation, as awneil mentions, you can find more information on how to program and debug external boards. In the nRF52840-DK HW files (bottom of page) you'll find the schematics for the board, showing the pinout for P19 and P20. The file you are looking for is: PCA10056_Schematic_And_PCB.pdf

I'm sorry I forgot to mention, I also tried this with SEGGER using the Blinky project from the SDK for the S132, but it kept programming only my DK instead of the nrf52832 that I connected on pin 19. Is there anything I need to select on SEGGER to make sure it goes to my target device?

The Nordic DKs include an on-board J-Link and, yes - that can be used to program external targets. How to do this is described in the DK documentation.

But what you describe is using some sort of 3rd-party (Adafruit/Arduino) bootloader - as Øyvind says, you will have to go to the 3rd party for support with that!

Hello,

Nordic does not provide any official support for Arduino. You will have to check this directly with the developers of the 3rd party developers. As the Adafruit nRF52 library is made by Adafruit, you will have direct your support questions to the Adafruit forum.

We suggest using the official SDK for our development kit along with Segger Embedded Studio which is free for people programming on Nordic devices. The SDK includes several example projects that work out of the box for our development kit.
