The nRF Sniffer for OS X has been released by an independent developer, this provides OS X users to run a BTLE sniffer natively. See nrf-ble-sniffer-osx

PCA 10000 v1.0 USB dongle will not work using 0.9.5 version of the sniffer, it may work on later versions, but we cannot confirm schedules at this point. I am locking this thread. I tried with my dongle V2.0.0 and it worked! That sniffer looks great. If I need more complex functions I may need to buy protocol analyser but it is good enough for now. Thank you very much. Great support!

If you use the dongle, you'll most likely need version 2.1.0 as the UART pinout have changed between the versions...

Hello. I have tried sniffer from Nordic with my PCA10000 but it doesn't seem to work. I get error message like below. User manual says "silicon revision 2 chip which is found on all boards that are version 2.1.0 or later" and my PCA10000 is V1.0 so I guess this is why it doesn't work. Is this correct? I have V2.0.0 board but it is not V2.1.0 or later so I guess this doesn't work either... Does it mean I have to buy development kit to use sniffer?

It's very impressive, worked first time. I could wish there was an OSX version but .. never mind.

Really super support from Nordic on this one .. and once again .. using free tools like wireshark is super useful.

The Nordicsemi BLE sniffer (nRF Sniffer) is now available for users of the nRF51822 evaluation and development kits. This is a free download and uses Wireshark to provide for some really neat filtering and display of packets. It is able to use a PCA10001 single evaluation board OR PCA10001 USB dongle to capture all advertising and in-connection packets from a device. (You do not need to buy 3 units to scan for 3 advertising channels).

Hi There. They have different models and add-ons, so I suggest you contact them sales-at-perytons.com or fill-in their online contact form - see reference.

If you have the TI dongle make sure you have it loaded with the right firmware (they provide the FW in the support/supported hardware section of their site as well) and you can even use their evaluation SW to capture our data (if you have 3 such suitable dongles and can connect them through a hub you can even capture all advertisement channels in parallel)

Hi All, I know this might be a bit late but I wanted to share with you the fact that Perytons (www.perytons.com) have just introduced a BLE sniffer - we have been using their tools for other WSN protocols (ZigBee and 6LoWPAN) and we are very satisfied with their products and support. Their products are not cheap but are very professional and intuitive to use. They have helped us a lot in our development and research work. - they are far lower than the price tags of Ellysis nor Frontline ;-) They have 2 models and use the standard off-the-shelf TI CC2540 EMK USB dongle as a front-end (they even provide a 30 days free evaluation of their SW that you can use to capture and analyze your own data - f you have the Front-End/s or look they pre-captured files included with the package). Master control panel will be master not sniffer so it is not ideal for me. I have a separate master device. Yes, I would like a professional one like Ellisys's one but I don't have unlimited budget...

BLE sniffer application that runs on a nRF51822 EV-KI will be available very soon, so BLE sniffer for $100! :-) Contact your local distributor and ask them to have a local Nordic FAE introduce you to what the capabilities of this will be

I think you can use Nordic's EK USB dongle and the Master Control Panel as a sniffer too.

I thought you were looking for a professional "spectrum analyzer" type of equipment. That's what Ellisys sells.

I don't know if it's ok to mention Nordic's competitors here, but TI has a dongle for $50 which can act as a sniffer:

You might want to buy three of them because each can only scan one advertising channel.
