Can you try to download and unzip the SDK again? You should have no issues building that project out of the box.

Have you included thumb_crt0.s, nrf_log_backend_rtt.c, nrf_log_backend_serial.c, nrf_log_backend_uart.c, and nrf_log_default_backends.c?
