I'm developing or trying to develop with this chip and like an idiot I just bought 5 chips from digi-key to make our own boards. Going ChipCon will be cheaper than buying a dev-kit just for a key. being a product in the early phase it was a 50/50 between the two main manufactures

The idea behind this is really dummy. Who will use this SDK? Nordic chip customers. So whats the meaning of require license key for downloading SDK? It works for just cutting nordics profits.

Engineers are smart and makes such chips, but sale managers could be an idiot and make such a rules...

**Edit:**Anyway, hackers find their ways. This is how warez born. Who has the guilty about this? Think about it.

I gain (unauthorized) access to: nRF_SDK_v5.1.0.36092, nRF51_SDK_v4.0.1.22983 And SoftDevices of: nrf51822_4.0.0-2.beta, 6_0_0 and 7_0_0.

All I can say, you can do almost everything with nrf51822 with little searching on the web. They all available at your internet. Specially they are hide in localized forums that using non-latin letters. I believe Nordic's employes have a difficulties to control whole world. I also found that NordicSemi ask some people about to remove SDK from their site/code.

PS: Does anyone find SDK 6.0 link? Let me know or drop a link here ;)

Hello, I'm in the same boat. I'd like to use the SDK without having to purchase either kit. I've got the nrf51 soc boards as well.

Same question here, have a bunch of pcbs with nrf SoC but can`t program anything for them without buying Dev or Eval Kit. Any updates? Thanks.

I have the same problem. I have 8 RFduino and having to buy a DEV or Eval kit just to be able to download the SDK is really annoying.

And I'm sure that there are hundreds of people who have the same issue.

Changing this is currently being considered internally, and there will most likely be at least some changes to this in the future, but I can unfortunately not guarantee anything with regard to scope or timing.

So the SDK essentially costs $99? Is there a reason for this? I assume you don't actually make money from the evaluation kits so it seems pointless and counter-productive to exclude people who don't have one (i.e. RFduino owners).

Please reconsider this policy.

Hi Vince, just to be clear on this, the SDK is available on the Nordic Semi website (www.nordicsemi.com). You will need to create a MyPage account if you do not already have one. You will need to be in possession of a Dev Kit or an Eval Kit to access the SDK. This is done by entering a product key that you will find on the front of the kit.

You can download the nRF518 SDK here, under the "downoads" tab, in the "software" section.
