Do you have these line in the switch statement in your on_adv_evt(..) function?

case BLE_ADV_EVT_SLOW:

Thanks Simon, I 've set the adv. interval to 2 sec - now it works. Unfortunately the power consumption rises ofc. Seems I don't get around to set a slow adv. timeout. Though, I'm still wondering why on_adv_evt doesn't get called when switching between fast and slow advertising.

The slow advertising interval is equal to (16380*0.625) ms = 10237.5 ms ~= 10.24 s, which is quite high and there is no wonder you won't get any connection requests. The scanning device will only scan during the scan window, which repeats every scan interval, and in order to see the advertiser it has to overlap. With an adv. interval of 10.24 this is very unlikely.
