Both nrfjprog.ini (Program Files and Program Files (x86)) are in its default state, I didn't modify anything.

So your .ini file is not set to family UNKNOWN, but to nrf51?

I have to run:

"C:\Program Files\Nordic Semiconductor\nrf5x\bin\nrfjprog.exe" -f nrf52 --eraseall
Erasing user available code and UICR flash areas.
Applying system reset.

Then it works.

I don't have any overview of that, but that shouldn't be necessary at all. You have done something else here. Maybe raise this as a support ticket

I have PCA10031 dongle which works with nrfjprog.

I had 32bit version of command line tools, so I installed 64 bit. I uninstalled J-Link 6.44g. Still the same:

"C:\Program Files\Nordic Semiconductor\nrf5x\bin\nrfjprog.exe" -v
nrfjprog version: 9.8.1
JLinkARM.dll version: 6.40

"C:\Program Files\Nordic Semiconductor\nrf5x\bin\nrfjprog.exe" --eraseall
ERROR: There is no debugger connected to the PC with the given serial number.

Is there any older version of nrf52 compatible nrfjprog available? I hope it could work as several months ago I was able to use some older version to program nrf51.

So the device is found correctly. That's the same function running internally, so it giving you this error makes no sense at all. I would have uninstalled everything jlink/nrfjprog related and reinstalled.

Just a shot in the dark, but are you running cmd as administrator? Maybe that could affect something

Current version is 6.44 something. Could you try updating your jlink-drivers?

Nothing. I only think that I was forced to update software in this folder several months ago in order to be able to develop firmware for nrf52832. In the past I was developing only for nrf51 and I was able to use nrfjprog without any issue. Now nrfjprog doesn't work even for our old device with nrf51. However, I can't remember what version of nrfjprog I used that time.

I'm not providing the serial number explicitly. When I provide serial number by --snr xxxxxxx I get the same "There is no debugger connected to the PC with the given serial number.".That is weird.

It's very weird that it gives the extra "with the given serial number". For me:

nrfjprog --eraseall
ERROR: There is no debugger connected to the PC.

Also, try doing nrfjprog --ids, which will yield something like this:

nrfjprog --ids
50107526

Then, you can do e.g

nrfjprog --eraseall --snr 50107526

If I do (in my specific case) erase with the wrong serial number provided, I get:

nrfjprog --eraseall --snr 50101010
ERROR: There is no debugger connected to the PC with the given serial number.

Hence, it looks like you are providing the serial number in some way or another.
