The S130 SoftDevice .hex file you need is downloadable in the SDK version 12.3 and can be found in this path: ...\components\softdevice\s130\hex

NOTE: nRFgo Studio is outdated at this point, and I recommend that you rather use nRFConnect for Desktop, and its Programmer app.

Hello Simon,

Can you please provide the matching S130 softdevice that will work with that modified application and with the nRF51 Dongle? Does the nRF5 SDK need to be installed on the remote computer if I want to programm the dongle using nRFgo Studio?

Unfortunately we don't have the ble_app_uart example ready for PCA10031. You will have to modify the PCA10028 example as described in this post to make it compatible with the nRF51 Dongle/PCA10031 development kit.
