Ok it had nothing to do with the SDK.

As pointed out here, the current version of Segger for Windows is the problem.

The work around is to go to the build directory using command then type "ninja"

This will create the merged hex.

If I may have a quiet rant.

This is more than frustrating to have spent so many hours on this to discover that the answer is the word "ninja"

Well I tell what I can think of other words at the moment 🙂

Hi,

Please stick to v0.4.0 and switch to the full version of v1.0.0 when that comes out.

It will be released in the near future.

As Amanda said, v0.4.0 is the latest stable version. -rc# versions are in development and usually unstable. You are better off using the stable release v0.4.0 to develop with until v1.0.0 is released. It's one of those things, you can use the v1.0.0-rc# tags, but your results may vary 😅

Which version do you use?

Now the latest release is v0.4.0 as https://developer.nordicsemi.com/nRF_Connect_SDK/doc/latest/nrf/release_notes.html#release-notes

Here is the output from a build of GPS.

no, that's the problem.

I can only compile v0.4.0

As soon as I try and compile a later release it fails.

Do you run the recommended tagged release again:

cd ncs/nrf
git checkout master
git pull
git checkout v0.4.0
west update

What is the error log now? Is it still the same?

We suggest using version 7-2018-q2-update to fix the known issue. Please see

I have tested version 7-2018-q2-update can build without error on my side.

No, I've been told by Nordic to use a later release as we are actively trying to fix a firmware problem.

Further more I understand that it is a problem with the only current release of Segger available for use with Nordic and to do with the change to NCS regarding merged hex.

I would prefer a bit more support than use the "Old version". please.

Hi,

Please use GNU Arm Embedded Toolchain: 2018-q2 gcc-arm-none-eabi-7-2018-q2-update-win32.zip and the recommended tagged release:

cd ncs/nrf
git checkout master
git pull
git checkout v0.4.0
west update

Then you can try to build again:
