Thank you. It's working now. Turned out in my sdk_config.h file, the default baud rate was changed to 1000000.

OK, then it is getting more difficult to debug. Try to get hold of a logic analyser to check the transmission speed.

Generally, this happens when you have incompatible speed settings between the sender and the receiver. If I am not mistaken, the default baud rate in the Nordic config files would be 115200 bps, check the speed settings for putty.
