Probably, we've got a PWM module but streaming 44kHz + BLE will be a bit tricky. I suggest you look into using the I2S — Inter-IC sound interface peripheral to interface with a DAC.

The signal could be up to 20 khz.

If I use the 44khz sample rate do I need a dac on the other end?

Looking at that again, do you mean that the audio signal has an analogue bandwidth of 20kHz, or that the analogue audio has been sampled at a rate of 20kHz?

The question of sample size remains ...

I believe the Thingy52's audio link is capped at 10kHz.

The nRF52832's SAADC can sample once channel at 44kHz at 14-bit resolution. And the BLE radio can transfer at 88kBps, but it will require the full BLE 4.2 feature set in the receiver, and the range will not be that great.

There's work in progress on a BLE audio spec by the Bluetooth SIG, but I do not know when it is finished. I'm guessing in a year or two.

BLE really isn't designed for this!

An the name suggests, the focus of BLE is Low Energy - not high-speed or high-volume data.
