If it has entered PSM mode successfully, and you do not have any on-going IP traffic, it should start printing info, like this:

+CEREG: 5,1,"76C1","0102DA04",7,,,"11100000","00001111"
OK
Starting GPS
Enabling PSM
PSM enabled
[00:02:05.143,432] <dbg> nrf9160_gps.enable_gps: GPS mode is enabled
[00:02:05.150,726] <dbg> nrf9160_gps.enable_gps: Functional mode: 1
[00:02:05.157,562] <dbg> nrf9160_gps.start: GPS socket created
[00:02:05.167,999] <dbg> nrf9160_gps.start: GPS operational
GPS started successfully.
Searching for satellites to get position fix. This may take several minutes.
The device will attempt to get a fix for 360 seconds, before the GPS is stopped.
GPS operation started
[00:02:30.932,312] <dbg> nrf9160_gps.print_satellite_stats: Tracking: 0 Using: 0 Unhealthy: 0
[00:02:30.941,528] <dbg> nrf9160_gps.print_satellite_stats: Seconds since last fix 150
.....

If you are not able to enter PSM, like if the mqtt thread is still sending/receiving data, it still stop like in your print outs.

Could you try waiting a minute or so before turning on the GPS?

Kind regards,

What SIM card are you using? Our experience shows that some vendors do not allow PSM on roaming SIM cards. Could you check with AT client to verify if you enter PSM mode?

There's a "how to" on reading out PSM values here: https://devzone.nordicsemi.com/f/nordic-q-a/48200/correct-to-shutdown-modem-and-reconnect
