I am working on developing a program where the nRF52840 dongle is a central device and recognized as an HID keyboard to the computer.
I played around with the peripheral HID composite example and integrated it into my modified rscs central

RE: nRF52840 Dongle as ble central device recognized as an HID keyboard

I never ended up trying your recommendation to attach an external debugger. But, I ran into the same problem again with my program on the Laird dongle which I purchased.

To fix the probem all I had to do was set "*p_erase_bonds = true" in my function that initializes my buttons and leds instead of "*p_erase_bonds = (startup_event == BSP_EVENT_CLEAR_BONDING_DATA)."

With that fix, both the nRF52840 Dongle and Laird Connectivity dongle work.

Thanks for your help.

RE: nRF52840 Dongle as ble central device recognized as an HID keyboard

Thank you for the reply.

I haven't tried attaching a debugger yet just because I received a BL654 dongle from Laird Connectivity and it was plug in play after programming it. If I ever go back to the dongle I will follow your instructions.

Appreciate the fast reply!

RE: nRF52840 Dongle as ble central device recognized as an HID keyboard

I recommend to attach a debugger as described in 'Using an external debugger' chapter in the nRF52840 Dongle Programming Tutorial.
Since you have an nRF52840-DK you can use that to program and debug the nRF52840-Dongle as described here:
https://infocenter.nordicsemi.com/topic/ug_nrf52840_dk/UG/nrf52840_DK/hw_debug_out.html?cp=3_0_4_7_9
